Maritime Autowash, near Annapolis, MD., asked The Heiserman Group to design a new carwash for a site next to a busy intersection with sloped topography. The building footprint needed to be as small as possible to accommodate traffic patterns, and the client asked for a striking design to draw the attention of passersby.
THG stepped up to meet the challenge, delivering a cutting-edge design reflecting a maritime theme. The new carwash met the program requirements for automobile circulation, while serving as an oasis amid the traffic. A customer can wait in the lounge or Internet cafe areas while their car is being detailed.

Judean Memorial Gardens is located just north of Washington, D.C., on 36 acres of open land in Montgomery County, MD. For more than 20 years, the cemetery housed its administrative offices in a temporary, mobile trailer. When the time came to create a permanent office and memorial chapel, the cemetery turned to The Heiserman Group.
The client requested a permanenet, multi-purpose facility that featured offices and a chapel to honor the departed in a modest, yet dignified manner. They also asked for the new building to incorporate the unique topography of the site.
THG designed the new structure atop a knoll, one of the highest points on the cemetery grounds, where natural topography allowed the separation of offices and chapel spaces on different floors. The structure, designed with the intent of being a pure sculptural form, features a square, stone sanctuary that holds 150 mourners. It is encircled on three sides by ancillary spaces.
In 2004, the American Institute of Architechts' Potomac Valley Chapter recognized the chapel's creative design with its Citation Award.
Encore is a young, rapidly expanding general contracting company that needed to relocate its corporate offices. For its new home, Encore purchased a series of industrial bays within an ordinary warehouse industrial park in Annapolis, Md. The company asked The Heiserman Group to make its new headquarters a functional, affordable and flexible space that would showcase Encore’s exceptional construction skills and attract the attention of visitors and clients.
THG met the program requirements by transforming the three industrial bays into a unified space, featuring bold accent walls, offices with floor-to-ceiling glass, and partially-exposed ceilings that reflect the space’s past use as a warehouse.
In 2007, the American Institute of Architects’ Potomac Valley Chapter presented THG with an Honor Award in the Commercial Interiors category for this project.
